This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to confirm collection requirements, prepare client and equipment and collect specimens following the special procedures that apply for drugs of abuse testing.
This unit applies to individuals working in collection centres, in hospitals, in other health care environments and workplaces where drugs of abuse testing takes place.

The Wallet Card is a convenient way of having a record of your certification with you at all times. It also lists your Statement of Attainment number which certain organisations require when completing the Chain of Custody form.

Become a Certified Drugs of Abuse Collector
HLTPAT005 Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing is the minimum requirement for workplace drug and alcohol testing compliance.
​
It is a requirement for companies collecting urine or oral fluid samples who wish to meet Australian Standards to have their collectors trained as per the definition of collector under AS/NZS4308:2008 and AS4760:2019.
Progressive Diagnostics specialises in delivering drug and alcohol testing training which includes: urine sample collection and testing, oral fluid (saliva) sample collection and testing and breathalyser operation.​
Unit of Competency
Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the nationally recognised Unit of Competency: HLTPAT005 Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing.

The face-to-face training course is currently on promotion at $550.00 per person (normally $650.00).

Suitability
People that would like to be certified to perform workplace drug and alcohol testing.
This unit applies to individuals working in collection centres, in hospitals, in other health care environments and workplaces where drugs of abuse testing takes place.
Employment pathways could include drug and alcohol testing at mine sites, large industrial sites, transport depots, medical centres and other workplaces or environments where the need for drug and alcohol screening has been identified as a Occupational Health and Safety requirement.

Training Delivery - Face-to-Face
Progressive Diagnostics provides a holistic training delivery approach to address the learning styles and needs of participants.
Our training courses are conducted Face-to-Face either onsite at your workplace or at our training venue and include practical ‘hands-on’ experiences, as well as group classroom-based activities and discussion, including simulations and scenarios.

Course Prerequisites
​
Participants need to be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Participants will be required to complete the course using the English language, both spoken and written in a legible manner. Participants are also required to be able to read and apply the course content.
Participants are required to be able to work autonomously and to make judgements within the responsibility of their job role working in collection centres, various industry environments and workplaces where drugs of abuse testing takes place.
Participants also need to have the ability to provide solutions to both predicable and unpredictable situations.
​
The assessor must be satisfied that the participant has sufficient knowledge of the English language, both written and oral, to safely perform the required work.

Training Delivery - Online
​
Online training is also available (online theory and face-to-face or webinar practical).
Our blended training course includes an online theory component and a separate practical component, completed either via a face-to-face practical or via a one-on-one webinar session with a Progressive Diagnostics trainer/assessor.
